Finnish Ruis Bread Stand
Fridays and Saturdays at the Union Square Greenmarket offer up a whole lot of early spring bounty but no matter the weather, there is some spectacular rye out there a la Finland by way of Long Island City. I don’t really care where it comes from, I’m just glad it’s here.
As they say, “it’s 100% whole grain, NY grown organic rye, 15% fiber and chock full of antioxidants”. It has a rich nutty taste and comes in small, medium and large rounds as well as loaf style. They offer it sliced with butter, cucumber and a piece of tangy cheese. I’m fully committed.
