A Lil’ Greenmarket Fun

Union Sq Greenmarket / Valley Shepherd Creamery

Passed through the market today and it’s astounding how many cheesemongers there are now. Used to be the aberration. I will do a bigger list sometime but today stopped at the Valley Shepherd Creamery stand. Fresh from their farm in NJ. Got a pecorino called Shepherd’s Logue. Pure, raw sheep’s milk molded into kind of a loaf and rubbed with herbs de provence. It’s got spunk. It’s fabulous. It’s like a little bit of Toscana right in your hand. And your mouth.

I paired it with one of the last of the season Honey Crisp apples for an afternoon tea break.

And why leave out the best friend? There was a stand selling patches of grass for your doggie’s dining delight. Since mine loves nothing more than a few green blades, I thought this would do him in with pleasure. He’s chosen the slow nibble. Maybe as it’s “unseasoned”, not quite as delectable?
